Coorong day trip Coorong day trip

This group wanted an enjoyable day trip with a difference. What would you do?

Departed Nhill (could be Horsham, or your closest location)

We departed at 8am and were back home by 7pm. The flight was initially over the farming land of Western Victoria and then South Australia. After about 40 minutes the coast came into view at Salt Creek. From here it was a spectacular low level flight with the windswept beach out the left window and the tranquil waters of the Coorong out our right window. After about 15 minutes of this wonderful scenery the Murray River mouth came into view. The patterns and swirls of the sands and water are truly lovely. After another couple of minutes Hindmarsh Island and the marina at Goolwa floated under our wing. Our landing at Goolwa followed after a total flight of just 70 minutes.

The coffee shop was our first port of call and then the market. The shopping centre is just a few minutes walk as well. After lunch and a visit to the brewery we boarded the Cockle train and enjoyed a leisurely 30 minute ride to Victor Harbour. The slow pace meant plenty of time to enjoy the views from the windows of the historic train carriage. Middleton, Port Elliot and all the places in between are very popular with tourists.

After a wander around Victor Harbour and a stroll along the causeway it was time to make our way back to the airport. The return flight in the fading afternoon light was over Currency Creek, the Finnis River, Lake Alexandrina & Lake Albert. We were all home in time for tea.
